Day 80 — What Am I Looking At?

I'm not sure what I am photographing here — the orchids or the lighting. The partially closed blind creates laser like images in the early morning.

Day 79 — Staircase at Front Door

As the sun starts moving toward its summer schedule the light at sunrise changes the room dramatically.

Day 78 — Down on the Floor

Can one be too minimalist? The shadows on the floor just grab me every time. I'd love to do a show of just the 'floorscapes.'

Day 77 — White and Black

I know you've been missing the tulips — it is spring after all. I think this image works because it is divided down the middle (black and white) with the shadows in the white square and sunlit flowers in the black square.

Day 76 — Flying High

I startled myself with this shot off the balcony. It looks like I am flying over the clouds rather than only standing on the fourth floor balcony. I like the way the 'rule of thirds' plays out with the deep gray at the top, mid gray sky center and clouds on the bottom.

Day 75 — Cohncave

It's been a while since I photographed the Alessi "Cohncave" bowl. The actual bowl is the curve on top and its resulting shadow is the shape below.

Day 74 — Into the Light

I broke all the rules with this shot. I shot into the light which made the flowers delicately translucent.

Day 73 — Protrusion II

Last Thursday I posted "Protrusion" from a different angle. I like this one in the way it flattens the plane and is a little more confusing to the eye.

Got the fixings for a great guacamole, and it tastes so much better from a molcajete.

Day 71 — Shannon

We have a dark chocolate wall in the kitchen which I like to use for portraits. Portrait photography is the rare occasion I pull out the flash. This time it is bounced off a low white ceiling.

A friend has a lemon tree that fruits 365 days a year. What better subject for a 365 day blog? It was the translucency of the leaf (lit from beneath), that prompted me to snap this picture.

The tulips have now opened nicely. Although we face east, at this time of year the apartments opposite us reflect the setting sun exquisitely for about 5 brief minutes each evening.

Day 51 — Starlings

Are you surprised to see this in 25' RADIUS? I am still inside my apartment — just pointing the camera out the window. It was dusk and the starlings began maniacally circling our building. On about their sixth circuit I captured this shot. Notice the ISO is ramped up for dusk so that I could use a fast shutter speed. I love the birds that appear as compact flying bullets.

Yesterday I photographed an African mask. This is another African mask (Alocasia x amazonica AKA African Mask). A new leaf caught in the moment of slowly unfurling.

Day 34 — Glass Apple

Day 33 — Colima Dog

Colima dogs are about 2,000 years old. They were added to burials as symbolic food for the deceased. During that time in Mexico, this small hairless dog was considered a delicacy. I have depicted him here emerging from a symbolic tomb into the light.

Day 32 — Tulips Noir

These tulips are swimming in a sea of 'film noir' style shadows. The shadows are from the ribs on a Vitra chair They become a lot more engaging with a narrow depth of field to blur their mystery.
